Couples Therapy

“To value one another is our greatest safety, and to indulge in fear and contempt is our gravest error.”

Marilynne Robinson

One of the first things I tell couples is that we aren’t born knowing how to do relationships well; it is something we all have to learn. I enjoy working with people at all stages of the couple life span—whether dating, newly married, in-the-thick-of-it married, or empty nesters—to learn and practice healthy relationships. In my work with couples, I utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a model based on attachment science.

Parent & Family Therapy

“The parent-child connection is the most powerful mental health intervention known to mankind.”

Bessel van der Kolk

Sometimes parents need help navigating through a difficult phase of raising children, which can come at any stage—from infancy to adolescence and even to adulthood. As a mother of two, I am passionate that some of the most important work we do in life is to love and parent our children well, and this takes equal parts skill and compassion.

In addition to working with parents, I also work with families on how to create or restore healthy ways of communication that nurture one another and acknowledge each other's need for belonging.

I am also personally and professionally knowledgeable about the realities of adoption—the particular highs and lows families experience. Adoptive and foster families have unique qualities that call for someone who understands how these specific experiences can affect families and who can also support and guide them toward healthy attachment and development.

Individual Therapy

“To be human is to need others, and this is no flaw or weakness.”

Life transitions, relationship issues, family of origin difficulties, grief, and abuse are just some of the struggles that can get us off track and lead to disconnection from ourselves, our spirituality, and our significant relationships. These are common concerns for both adolescents and adults in my practice. Because emotional wounds occur in relationships, healing comes through relationships too. Your struggle is welcome here. Having a safe place and an empathetic presence so you can work through your personal story is an important part of your growth.

I also work with teenagers. Adolescence is a wonderful, confusing, exciting, and challenging time where your child is working toward independence. Helping teens work through their unique struggles is an area of my work that I particularly enjoy.
